Cortisol - The Stress Hormone

Cortisol - The Stress Hormone

Cortisol is the stress hormone that is released by the adrenal glands POST ADRENALINE spike. It’s great to have in small doses when we consider the traditional “fight or flight” response, however over time our lifestyles induce this effect on us constantly because we have terrrrrrrible [learned] habits that keep the vicious adrenaline/cortisol cycle repeating.

Physical cortisol symptoms:
- Gained weight around the belly / upper bum
- Excessive sweating for no reason and just generally “running hot”
- Wake up around 3/4am
- Low immunity
- Slow healing/methylation
- General irritability

How you can reduce the adrenaline stress response:
- Eat every 3 hours, starting within 30 mins of waking and stopping 3 hours before bed time
- Drink enough water throughout the day (starting and finish your day with 250ml)
- Omega 3’s!! Make sure you get the highest EPA/DHA ratio you can find (trusted brands: Solgar & Metagenics)
- Reduce or cut out dairy, sugar and gluten
- Fix your leaky gut with a consistent probiotic
