What you need to know about Functional Medicine: A shiny new lens on health and wellness.

What you need to know about Functional Medicine: A shiny new lens on health and wellness.

Functional Medicine refers to a method of thinking. It mitigates traditional medicine by providing practical and realistic solutions to preventing chronic disease and therefore keeping long-term illnesses at bay and out of the doctors rooms.

Functional Medicine aims to alleviate the over populated and incredibly important traditional system.

  • We look at the puzzle of chronic illness from different perspectives, looking for root causes of the disease, seeing the body as an interconnected system and/or network.

  • Functional Medicine is a question of why… not what.

  • We ask, what are the 360 degree ingredients for health, including but not limited to diet? What are the impediments? How do we find a common ground between the two on a client-to-client, personalised basis?

As Functional Medicine works on a very personalised model, a large part of the work we do is unpack all of your biology and history and how ‘inputs’ have an effect on your health.

Functional Medicine is heuristic. As a child who grew up in a 90’s diet culture, who studied and practiced marketing — the commercial world is trying to kill us while they pad their pockets. The biggest and most therapeutic mental shift that Functional Medicine taught me was to think about food in terms of its value of nutrition and not of caloric count. This stems from the idea of “whole foods”. High calorie foods barely exist in nature, the highest being: Olives, avocados and salmon to name a few, which are all considered high quality and therapeutic fats.

Having said the above, Functional Medicine also aims to be realistic. We live in a crazy world of high expectations, which often aren’t self-fulfilling but rather for the sake of some corporation’s benefit.

The greatest advantage of the Functional Medicine model is its 360 degree approach to wellness. Fix one, fix all. It’s one of the best models to follow if you are looking to tune into your body and it’s messaging.

Health is wealth,
